I was mesmerized by how quickly everything was changing around me. Just this morning I had been a loving mother to my son, Mikael and now I was thrust into a rebellion. My son was dead, his father was dead, and the future for myself was up in the air. I had spent twenty years as the General’s mistress in exchange for information that allowed this revolution to take place. It had cost me everything, but somehow I had to believe that the benefits would outweigh the cost, at least we would be free. I tried to comfort myself in the fact that every war had its casualties, but it was not a comforting thought.

Stefan was my protector and continued his duty as he led the way into the UN’s central command. The building had been disguised as merely another warehouse, but Mikael’s escape made its true purpose come to light. I of course already knew the purpose. This was where I would meet General Jim Bellows for our evening rendezvous. I had committed the layout to memory, probably more than once to be honest, I had no way of knowing how many times I may have been subject to a ‘wipe’.

“This way,” I said as we turned down another corridor that took us deeper into the compound. I could see a man of about thirty years old standing at a doorway with his hands raised above his hands. He was wearing a UN military uniform but he had a smile on his face.

“Mrs. Richter, I am Erik Wolfe. I am the dispatcher who was communicating with you earlier,” he said before lowering his arms to rest by his side. “I didn’t want to be mistaken for one of them,” he continued as he pointed at two dead Enforcers. They had been shot in the head with no evidence of struggle. I looked back at Erik and noticed the .40 caliber handgun on his hip. He nodded his head in acknowledgment.

I stepped up to the younger man and embraced him. “Germany thanks you for what you have endured for her.”

“Thank you, ma’am, if you continue this way I will take you to the armory,” he finished. Together we walked down three flights of stairs down into the armory. It was full of automatic weapons and explosives. Many of these weapons I had never seen before. Fortunately Erik was very familiar with the contents. He explained each weapon and gave a brief to the rebels on how to use them. Once he completed the brief he began issuing the items out to everyone. “Now that everyone is well armed let’s go to the subway and I will send you to the next major hub.”

“Where is that?” Stefan asked as he gawked at the weapon in his hands.

“Mannheim,” Erik stated. “From there you will split up and half of you will go to Frankfurt.”

“Why would we split up? Our strength is in our numbers,” Stefan said.

“Your strength is in your weaponry, sir. That is why you were issued multiple weapons.
